A pocket ride for St Lads Cash proved profitable in the $10,500 Preferred Handicap Pace on Sunday (Sept. 18) at Rideau Carleton Raceway as the six-year-old Sunfire Blue Chip gelding downed 1-9 favourite The Light Speed in 1:54.2.
Clearing to a :26.3 first quarter, St Lads Cash yielded control to The Light Speed, who paced to a :56.3 half and endured first-over pressure from Ima Dude to three-quarters in 1:25.2. Repelling that challenger around the final turn, The Light Speed could not withstand the fresh legs of St Lads Cash. He dove through the open stretch and slid to a length victory over The Light Speed, with Hes Got A Vendetta rallying from second over for third.
Michelle LeBlanc owns and trains St Lads Cash, who won his 17th race from 129 starts and has now earned $153,698. Steeven Genois drove the $17.90 winner.
