David Neilson’s Gurf ($22.60, Allan Davis) notched his fifth win of the year Wednesday in the $19,000 Open Trot at Harrington Raceway.
One of four driving wins for Davis, Gurf capitalized on an early hot pace to pick off rivals in deep stretch for a two length win in 1:56.2 over Ringside Muscle and Photo Maxx.
After Spunky Jack made early leaders Can Do and Awesome Valley work through fractions of :27.3, :56.3 and 1:27, Gurf mounted his attack at the top of the stretch and was an easy winner for trainer Rosemary Smutz.
Gurf’s seasonal earnings ballooned to more than $100,000 for the second straight year.
Drivers George Dennis, Sean Bier and Ross Wolfenden each had a driving double.
