Kim and John Waite’s Alexachase overcame a driving rain and first-over trip for driver Bret Brittingham en route to prevailing in the $20,000 Mares Open Tuesday at Harrington Raceway in 1:54.2 over a sloppy racetrack.
Trained by Waite, Alexachase pulled first over past the half in :57.4 and made a steady grind on pacesetter Monochromatic to the three quarter pole in 1:26.2. Alexachase wore down the leader in the stretch and was a determined winner by a nose. Race favourite Monochromatic was a dead game runner-up, with VC Atom N a mere three-quarters of a length back in third.
It was the third consecutive win for the four-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight-Jett Away who has banked more than $187,000 to date.
Driver Tony Morgan had three wins on the program. Montrell Teague, Bret Brittingham and Ross Wolfenden each had two.
