Rallying from the back of the field, Sophist claimed the pacing feature of the evening Thursday at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

It was win number three of the evening for Marc Campbell as he continues his stranglehold on the driver’s standings for the 11th straight year.

Unhurried at the start of the $2,150 event, the Chris MacKay-trained Sophist got away sixth and began her move to the outside heading to the half-mile station. The four-year-old daughter of Up Front Charlie got up to engage pacesetter Lyons Jennielee (Driven by Myles Heffernan) at the three-quarters of 1:27.4 then pulled away in the stretch to stop the timer in 1:56.2. Lyons Jennielee hung on for second while Better Be In Love (Brodie MacPhee) was third.

Jordie MacKay of French River holds the ownership papers of the 11-time winner.

Campbell also visited the winner’s circle with Freddie in 1:59.2 and Nikes Cowgirl in 2:00.1, both from his own stable.

Mile Hill Willie was part of a four-win performance for driver Gilles Barrieau as they teamed up to win the $2,400 Open trot in 1:57.3 for trainer Paul Morrison of Cardigan.

Barrieau won with the Scott Dunn trained Ill Tell Me Ma in 1:58.4 and scored a double from the Ron Matheson barn with Clare Hall Hanover (1:59.2) and Collective Wisdom (1:57.4).

Temagami Seelster won her fifth straight in race 10 of the program as Brodie MacPhee guided the Tom Weatherbie trainee to a 1:55.4 victory.
