In what may be a first in the history of racing at Pocono Downs, the off-track conditions and cooler temperatures on Wednesday, September 16 produced four trifecta payoffs of more than $2,000 each in addition to a superfecta return of $3,482.60.
The first big ticket, a $2,622 trifecta, occurred in the opening race of the 16-dash card with the combination of 4-7-3 -- to boot, the four horse, Rustys Martini, was one of the favourites at 2-1.
A 7-4-3 finish in the third race produced a $2,072.40 windfall for a $2 wager. The seven horse, Major Trapp, went off at 9-1.
The fourth race produced a $3,482.60 superfecta with the winning payoff involving only three numbers, 4-5-3-all. The race was won by 11-1 Speed McQueen.
A $2,688.20 trifecta payoff was registered in the seventh race on the combination of 8-1-9. Spit N Shine, the winning horse, paid went off at 11-1.
A trifecta return of $2,521.40 took place in the 14th race with the numbers being 3-6-2. Everyday Colt, listed at 4-1 morning line, went off at 13-1 in the race and paid $28.80.
