Trainer-driver Kelly Hoerdt hustled odds-on choice Century Mach out of third to the final turn and surged clear of her rivals to take the $10,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace at Fraser Downs on Thursday night (Sept. 15).
Glimpseofgoodness set the pace under minimal pressure through a :27.1 first quarter and :57.3 half. As the tempo quickened to three-quarters in 1:25.3, Hoerdt angled Century Mach off the cones and progressed to press Glimpseofgoodness into the far turn. Rounding the bottom corner, the four-year-old JK Royal Flush mare slid clear to a two-length win over pocket-sitter Danzig To Dharma in 1:53.4. Glimpseofgoodness finished third.
Owned by Kelly Hoerdt, Century Mach won her 14th race from 45 starts and has now earned $78,583. She paid $3.60 to win.
