The betting public was banking on big things from Birdman in Friday’s $8,700 Open 2 Trot at Vernon Downs, and the 9-5 favourite had no problem delivering on his pari-mutuel promise.
Birdman marched to the lead from Post 5 for driver Barton Dalious, and together they led the field through panels of :27.2 :57.1 and 1:26.4. A closing quarter clocked in :28 was more than enough to earn the Tony Ciuffetelli trainee the win by three lengths over Lepanto in 1:54.4. E Street was third.
