It was déjà vu for driver David Dowling at Red Shores’ Summerside Raceway on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 16), as he captured the top pace of the day and won five races for a second straight week.
Dowling used rail control with Mando Fun to carve out all the fractions (:28.1, :58.1, 1:27.3) in the $2,200 featured pace. The contest was closed out in :29.1 for a 1:56.4 mile time. Mando Fun prevailed over KD Overdrive (who was driven by Corey MacPherson) and third place Goliath Reigns (Dale Spence). Mando Fun is co-owned and trained by Paul Biggar of Tyne Valley along with co-owner Donald Callbeck of Kensington, P.E.I.
Dowling also visited the winner’s circle with Heart And Guts for owner Shirlene O’Brien of Burton, P.E.I. after a 1:58.3 mile and Windemereimalright for trainer Earl Watts of North Wiltshire, P.E.I. in a time of 2:00. Dowling’s other wins came with Young Man Matt in 1:57.3 for Terry Gallant of Summerside, P.E.I., and Cal Hanover for trainer Watts in 2:02.4.
Heart And Soul captured the back-up class for a $1,900 with Walter Cheverie engineering the winning trip in 1:57.3 for owner Riley Farms Ltd., of Summerside. The race saw a dead heat for second place, as Salmonier Storm (Ambyr Campbell) and Pictonian Storm (Ken Murphy) hit the wire together.
