Glide Power Wins $100,000 NJSS Final

After starting from the rail, three-year-old trotting filly Glide Power turned a two-hole trip into a 1:56.2 victory during her $100,0000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Premier Division Championship this afternoon at Freehold Raceway

Bar Slide had taken the lead off the first turn. With Brian Sears driving, Glide Power, by Yankee Glide, trotted in second through fractions of :27.4, :57.4 and 1:27.1. Glide Power closed in the stretch and got up by a neck over Bar Slide. Jettalady finished third

The win was Glide Power's fourth in 10 starts this year for trainer by Jan Johnson. She has also had three seconds and two third-place finishes this year.

“He's been a very pleasant surprise,” said Toscano. “After a slow start, he's come along in a big way. We were hoping to start him a few times then shut him down, but he's turned out much better than anyone could have hoped. He has NJ Futurity and Matron left. We'll take it one start at a time.”

Glide Power’s earnings rose to $345,300 this year and $370,391 in her career with the $50,000 winner’s share of the purse.
