This year has as many as 25 separate divisions taking place over the three race programs.
Thursday’s events, which will spotlight the trotters, will carry a combined total of over $34,950 in prize money.
The first stakes race has two-year-old filly Red Pajamas as the morning line favourite for driver Marc Campbell and owners Blaine and Sandra White. The filly, which was cared for by members of the Morell 4H club when she was purchased at the yearling sale last year, has back to back wins and over $18,000 in the bank so far this season.
BJ Eldorado, owned, trained and driven by Montague native Bert Honkoop, will start from the rail for his $4,000 division. The dash could be called 'The Battle of Montague' since the other two favorites, West River Ugo and Phantom Z, are also owned by Montague residents Ralph Annear and Lewis McHeron. McHeron co owns with Philip Valley, Vernon Bridge.
Howmacs Amigo, owned by Howmac Farms Ltd. (North Wilshire), and Grayland Bling from the Paul Grey stable (Pugwash, NS) are leading contenders in their respective divisions, while Gordon MacLean’s Scarlet Patti and Oyster Bed Mary, trained by Paul Morrison, takes the top call in the Andrew Perry Memorial. Morrison shares ownership with Allison Ferguson (Charlottetown).
