Harness racing returned to Northlands Park in Alberta on Friday evening, and fans were treated to a solid, 10-race program.

The opener went to Mrbssweetpea and driver Philip Giesbrecht in 2:01.2. The two-year-old daughter of Mr Brightside-Sweetypea rolled the field through fractions of :30.2, 1:02 and 1:32 before scooting home in :29.2 to win by 6-3/4 lengths over Thats How It Goes. Third prize went to Cenalta Glory.

Gerry Hudon trains the youngster for partners Kelly and Monica Hudon. The victory was a maiden-breaking triumph for the lightly-raced lass.

Giesbrecht swept the Daily Double thanks to a second race score with Snap Test. The Keith Clark trainee halted the teletimer in 1:58.2.

Trainer Rod Hennessy enjoyed a training triple on opening night thanks to triumphs with Stash The Cookies (2:00.1 – Race 3), Custard Lite (1:58.2 – Race 7) and Royal Mistress (1:59.2 – Race 10).

Northlands Park will feature another 10-race program on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
