Red Shores Summerside staged the Atlantic Aged Mares Pacing Series on Sunday and driver Kenny Arsenault took both divisions with repeat winners Stayoutofmyaffair and Dirt Track Momma.
In the first $3,040 division, Arsenault muscled Stayoutofmyaffair back to the front after releasing General Luckypercy through the opening panel in :27.4. Once in command, the Stephen Quinn trainee posted fractions of :58.1 to the half and the three-quarter pole was reached in 1:27.3. The time of the mile was 1:56.3. Robi Hughes of Stratford, P.E.I. owns the mare. General Luckypercy (Gilles Barrieau) held on for second while the winner's stablemate, Bunny Mach (Jason Hughes), was third.
Owned and trained by Jonah Moase of Cornwall, P.E.I., Dirt Track Momma gave Arsenault his second Series win with a 1:56 gate-to-wire effort. The race fractions were :27.4, :57.4 and 1:28 with a :28-second final frame. J K Special (Walter Cheverie) and Skylark Hanover (Gilles Barrieau) completed the triactor.
In other action, driver-trainer Phillip Desroches won the first two races of the afternoon. Desroches drove Eww That Smell to victory while his trainee Duchess Killean completed the double with Jason Hughes driving.
The other feature on the afternoon went to Bet The House and driver Gilles Barrieau in 1:56.4. Barrieau did the driving for Gary Arsenault of Miscouche, P.E.I. and Blaine Mckenna of Elmsdale, P.E.I.
The harness racing community held a touching ceremony after race four with the memorial horseshoe in honour of driver and Prince County Horsemen’s Club president Phillip Doucette. Doucette passed away suddenly last Sunday shortly after competing in a race at Red Shores Summerside. His horse, Tobins Star, was taken trackside by Sheldon and Jacki Rogers as family members, drivers and members of the industry paid tribute with a moment of silence broken by the call the post.
