Gay Scores First-Ever Driving Win

It was a serious speed show on the final night of the season at Fredericton Raceway. Jags Rasin earned his second straight win, equaling his lifetime record of 1:56.3 in the

feature race of the night.

Owned and bred by Mel Land of Hopewell Cape, NB, Jags Rasin was on the lead from gate-to-wire for driver Stephen Trites. He defeated Seven Signs (Ed Harvey) and Magnetic Benka (Gilles Barrieau). It was one of four sub-2:00 miles on the 10-dash program.

Stacy Gay earned the first win of his driving career, scoring with Breeze Hanover in 1:59.2. Gay followed up the initial victory with another behind Escape Plan in 2:03.

Gilles Barrieau, the leading dash-winning driver this season at Fredericton, earned a driving triple. His fastest came with Thomasville Bodeen in 1:58.2. He also captured triumphs with R Es Andrew in 1:59.4 and Highjinx Benka in 2:01.3. R Es Andrew won his fourth consecutive race for owner-trainer Linda Hughes.

Other winners were Money Hustler (Todd Trites) in 2:03.3, Missmeme (Stephen Trites) in 2:03.3, Ace On The River (Phillip Hodgson) in 2:01.2, and Birdton Bert (Todd Trites) in 2:01.3.

There will be harness racing at Saint John's Exhibition Park Raceway on Saturday, with post time at 1:00 p.m.
