DP Freedoms Chrome won the $29,861 Open Handicap Trot featured on the Sunday, Sept. 13 program at Running Aces.
Stepping back up to Open competition, even-money favourite DP Freedoms Chrome made it two wins in a row with a sharp 1:54.2 tally after taking command past the first pole. Dean Magee was in the bike for the three-quarter of a length score over Fifty Rivers (Mooney Svendsen), with Peanutbutterfalcon (Scott Cisco) rounding out the triactor. A 32-time career winner, the son of For You Almostfree-Wannabee Loved is trained by Elvin Zimmerman and owned by Aimes Racing of Elma, Iowa. The former Minnesota champion earned his first local Open victory. He paid $4 to win.
Sunday's card also include two divisions of Minnesota-sired sophomore trotters. In the $29,167 sophomore 'A' division, Bang Bang Boogie (New Jersey Viking-Caitrin Hall) and driver Rick Magee went to the top from post six and never looked back en route to the trotter's 11th win of the season with a 1:58.2 mile. He held on by a neck for the victory over HM Magical Money (Nick Roland), with My Little Maverick (Dean Magee) third. Bang Bang Boogie, who returned $2.80 on top, is trained by Justin Anfinson and owned by Stephanie Anfinson of Kenyon, Minnesota and Ken Stauffer of Withee, Wisconsin.
Larry Mather's SV Rough And Tough (Tom Ridge-Sierra Glide) rolled to a gate-to-wire tally in the $19,444 sophomore 'B' split for a new career mark of 1:58.2 with trainer/driver Brady Jenson in the bike, while Shots On Goal (Mooney Svendsen) completed the exacta 1-1/4 lengths behind and The Big Bomb (Brian Detgen) was home in third. The popular winner returned $2.80 in his fourth successful start of the season.
There are three nights left to go in the 2026 season at Running Aces: this Tuesday (Sept. 15) with post time at 7 p.m. (CDT) and special programs on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 18 & 19) with post times at 6 p.m. (CDT) for Champions Weekend. Friday's program will feature the Minnesota-sired consolation races and Saturday is the Minnesota Night of Champions with 12 championship races all going for $65,000 USD each. Total purses for the two nights will be more than $1 million USD.
