Serious injuries were avoided in an accident that occurred in Leamington Raceway's ninth race on Sunday, Sept. 14.

Racing in third through the stretch, the Dain Pearson-trained pacing mare Treasured Legacy stepped on a wheel of a sulky in front and fell along with his driver, Jonathan Hahn. Both horse and driver walked off the track under their power.

According to the Alcohol Gaming Commission of Ontario judges, Treasured Legacy was checked by the official veterinarian who observed some cuts and placed the horse on the short term vet list lame.

Hahn was checked out by EMS with knee pain. Track officials reported early Sunday evening that Hahn is fine and at home resting.

While avoiding the fallen horse, Garrett Rooney was jostled out of his seat behind Something Royal but managed to hold on and pull himself back in the bike. Rooney did complete his final driving assignment in the next race.

The ninth race was won by Slick N Sporty (Robert Doyle) as he closed outside of the leaders, Sheplaysforkeeps (Natasha Day), who was interfered with during the stretch incident, and Full Race Cam (David Edwards).
