Woodbine Mohawk Park hosted a short qualifying session on Tuesday morning (Sept. 14), with a few stakes eligibles in action.
Milton Stakes eligible Treacherous Reign turned in a 1:53.2 qualifying win during the morning's five-race session for trainer Tony Alagna.
Real Surreal was sent to the lead from the outside post seven and carved out panels of :28.3, :57.1 and 1:26.3 while sophomore gelding Captainofrocknroll and Treacherous Reign followed closely with a gap back to the rest of the field. Bob McClure tipped Treacherous Reign to the outside at the top of the lane and the five-year-old Captaintreacherous mare prevailed by one length over those foes with a :26.1 final frame.
The career winner over more than $965,000 took her mark of 1:48.3 in the 2019 Fan Hanover Stakes. She is owned by Alagna Racing, Big Als Stables, Let It Ride Stables and Bottom Line Racing.
The Alagna-trained two-year-old pacing colt Fox Valley Miki was a 1:59 winner, overtaking sophomore Datguyna Greensuit with a :27.2 final quarter, as he toured the Mohawk oval for the first time in rein to Stuart Sowerby. Owned by Tangie Massey, the unraced son of Always B Miki-Oozies Finale remains eligible to the Metro Pace.
Sugardaddycontrols was the fastest two-year-old on the pace, recording a 1:57 victory for trainer Dan Lagace and co-owner Ben Mudry.
The maiden Control The Moment-Sweetwithoutsugar colt took off to a wide-open lead heading to the first turn and clocked fractions of :28.3 and :59.3. Unlaced followed Twin B Austin's cover from fourth at the midway mark and continued on up alongside the leading Sugardaddycontrols as they approached three-quarters in 1:28.3, but he lost ground off the turn when drifting a little wide down the stretch. Sugardaddycontrols remained in control and cruised home three lengths on top. Twin B Austin finished up in second on the inside, just ahead of Unlaced.
Trained by Julie Walker, two-year-old trotting filly Eternal Lee opened the session with a nine-length victory in 1:57.3.
Returning from the The Red Mile where she finished fourth in a leg of Kentucky Championship Series, Eternal Lee followed the Muscle Mass colt Musculus Massa through early fractions of :29 and 1:00.2 before popping the pocket just before three-quarters in 1:30.1 and kicking home in :27.1 in a nine-length blowout win. Musculus Massa and Magic Massie followed in second and third.
Owned by Murray Ferguson Jr., the homebred daughter of Southwind Frank and Charity Hall broke her maiden in the Pure Ivory Series last month at first asking and was a runner-up in the Champlain Stakes.
The other qualifying race was won by three-year-old trotting gelding Mystic, who was an easy winner over a pair of foes in 1:57.1 with Chris Christoforou in the bike for trainer Rene Dion and owner S&R Racing Stable.
