Red Shores Hosts P.E.I. Colt Stakes Doubleheader

One Wicked Man takes aim at a Gold division of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts on the first half of a doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The mega-stakes Saturday has 29 total dashes of stakes events with an afternoon card starting at 12 p.m. with 13 races then an evening presentation at 6 p.m. featuring 16 dashes.

In the afternoon's sixth race, One Wicked Man will have to overcome post seven in his $20,000 P.E.I. Colt Stakes two-year-old pacing colt Gold division for trainer-driver Kenny Arsenault and owner James Perrot of Stratford. The McWicked colt was a winner in his last four races, with his only lifetime loss in six starts coming when he made a break in stride on July 27 and took himself out of the race.

He will take on six rivals including Income Approach (To be driven by Jason Hughes) and Cheezwiz (Ken Murphy).

Race 12 is the other $20,000 rookie colt Gold division with Prince Malicious riding a string of second-place finishes into the rail position for driver Jason Hughes, trainer Ashley Gamester and owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge. The Malicious colt has six competitors with his chief rivals drawing the outside in Father Hughie D (Clare MacDonald) and Rosetown Eclipse (Corey MacPherson). The previously undefeated Malevolent (Paul Langille) will look for redemption from post three after making a break his last start.

Race 9 is a $18,300 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold division for two-year-old pacing fillies with Woodmere Flojo (Adam Merner) selected on top for trainer Jamie Smith and owner Gowiththeflo Racing of Charlottetown over Elm Grove Talia (David Dowling) and Red Dirt Rock It (Mike McGuigan).

Stablemate Lady Hess is the favourite in the other $18,300 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold division for two-year-old pacing fillies in the third race. Merner will drive for trainer Smith and owners Groupof7 Stable of Charlottetown. The Heston Blue Chip filly will leave from post four as she faces off with My Happy Place (Gilles Barrieau) and Saulsbrook Inferno (Dowling).

The second half of the Saturday doubleheader at Charlottetown Driving Park features the three-year-old pacing divisions of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes along with the Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares Series presented by Standardbred Canada and the Reliable Motors Richard Campbell Memorial Invitational.

Merigo Magic (Merner) is the top selection in the $17,720 P.E.I. Colt Stakes three-year-old pacing colt Gold dash in the evening's second race for trainer Melissa Rennie and owners Mike May, Herman McQuaid, Derrick Cameron and Ian Walker. He is up against a field that includes Swordfromthestone (Brodie MacPhee) and Jack Boswall (Marc Campbell).

Jackies Boy is slated to be top dog in his $17,720 sophomore pacing colt Gold division in the sixth race with Myles Heffernan Sr., in the bike for owner-trainer Myles Heffernan Jr., of Montague. The Tobago Cays – Dusty Lane Bria colt is a homebred of the Heffernan family as he looks to expand on his $127,920 in lifetime earnings. Other top entries includes Allaboutthecash (Barrieau) and Pauls Crown (Campbell).

Race 8 is another three-year-old pacing colt Gold division of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes with Tobins Chester favoured from post three for driver Hughes, trainer Gamester and owner MacRae. His main rivals are Good Omen (Langille) and Little Leroy (Merner).

Fern Hill Indigo (MacPhee) will seek Gold glory in the third race on the night card in a three-year-old pacing filly Gold division of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes for $18,100. Tom Weatherbie trains the Malicious filly for owner Next Generation Stable of Stratford. Her competition includes Timberlea Lady (Myles Heffernan Sr.) and First Filly Chip (Corey MacPherson).

Another Gold division for sophomore fillies is in the fifth race with Chip Of Evil looking for her fifth win of the season for driver MacPherson, trainer Eddy Doucette and owner Inarush Stable of Kensington. She faces off with Galway Girl (Campbell) from post one and post eight starter Woodmere Delta (Brady Sweet).

The final P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold division is in Race 16 with the three-year-old pacing fillies. Miss Wicked (MacPherson) is the top selection for trainer Joe Baxter and owner Blaine Thibeau of Kensington. Other top entries includes Saulsbrook Feisty (Campbell) with post seven and Zendayas Firstlady (Myles Heffnernan Sr.) with post eight.

The $3,250 divisions of the Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares Series, presented by Standardbred Canada, take to the track in races 10 and 14.

Two divisions of the Reliable Motors Richard Campbell Memorial Invitational for aged pacers line up in races 12 and 15 in two power-packed fields. Race 12 includes Wind Blown (MacPherson), Blood Money (Barrieau), Tony Too Tall (Myles Heffernan Sr.), Time To Dance (Campbell), Island Beach Boy (MacPhee) and Malignity (Langille).

The second $8,500 split features Roll Em (Campbell), Fern Hill General (MacPhee), Rollwithhottytoddy (Myles Heffernan Sr.), Bee Two Bee (Hughes), Batterup Hanover (Langille) and Twin B Tuffenuff (Barrieau).
