CTHS Sale Concludes With Positive Numbers

On Saturday, September 10, a trio of yearlings which each sold for $45,000 topped the Open Session of the annual Canadian-Bred Yearling Sale

at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion.

Mike DePaulo, Agent for Bear Stables, signed the ticket for the top selling filly of the night, a daughter of Philanthropist through the Woodlands (Gail Wood) consignment, Agent for Lucille Wakefield. Cudney Stables purchased a son of Langfuhr through Schonberg Farm, Agent for Gustav Schickedanz, while the third $45,000 sale topper went to Pat Parente for a Pioneering colt, consigned by Willow Ridge Farm Thoroughbreds Inc., Agent.

By the night’s end, a total of 129 yearlings were sold for $1,266,600, up 1.2 per cent from last year’s Open Session total of $1,251,400. The average yearling price increased over 30 per cent from $7,539 in 2010 to $9,819 in 2011. This year’s median of $5,000 was also up 25 per cent over last year’s median of $4,000.

Arrangements are now being made for the CTHS Winter Mixed Sale, which will take place Saturday, November 28 at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion at Woodbine Racetrack, in suburban Toronto.
