Outlaw Watch Me rallied off cover in the stretch to claim the $2,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace on Saturday at Marquis Downs
.
Starting from the six post, Outlaw Watch Me and driver Brian Gray maintained that position early on while Three Promises (Barry McNaughton) shot off the gate from the fifth spot and landed the lead. After a :27.1 opening quarter, Three Promises took a breather and Outlaw Watch Me picked up cover from Alcars Xit (Marc Fillion) heading to the half in 1:00 flat. Willing Angel (Ron Cullen) subsequently pulled the pocket and reached up for the lead at the 1:29 third quarter mark, but the pacesetter battled back and took the field into the stretch. Outlaw Watch Me kicked into gear down the lane and moved from fifth to first and kept on going until she tripped the teletimer in 1:59.3.
Willing Angel finished three lengths back in second over Three Promises.
Gray also trains and owns the seven-year-old mare, a daughter of Straight Path-Rph Notice A Bunny. The win was her third of the year in 16 starts and 30th lifetime pushing her earnings to nearly $73,000.
