The Tuesday (Sept. 12) evening feature was Melody Maker’s time to shine as the son of Hes Watching trounced his rivals at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway as part of a four-bagger by driver Dale ‘Spinner’ Spence.
The Greg MacInnis-owned and trained Melody Maker was sent to the lead in the $3,400 feature and pounded down splits of :28, :56.2 and 1:25 on his way to a 1:53.4 victory in line to Spence. D Gs Elsa (Ken Murphy) was second ahead of Frontier Cruise (Corey MacPherson).
Spence had a quadruple on the night as the Tyne Valley driver also won with Ifyoucouldreadmymind (1:58.1) in race eight from the Rick Armstrong stable, then took race 11 in a front-stepping score with the Jeff Wallace-trained Flowersonthebeach (1:55) and race 12 aboard Glenview Rhonda (1:57) for trainer Adam Johnson.
Elm Grove Penney provided the upset of the evening in the race 14 finale as Brett Clow stickhandled the Luke Burke trainee to a 1:56.3 victory at 31-1 odds to top off a $831.10 triactor ticket.
Trainer Earl Watts doubled up on the evening to take sole command of the conditioning standings at the western P.E.I. track. Watts sent Showdown (Harold Shepherd) to victory in race one in a 1:57.1 clocking along with race five winner Howmac Agustus (Patrick Shepherd), who stopped the clock in 1:58.3.
