In recognition of September being Childhood Cancer Awareness month and the courageous fight of five-year-old cancer-stricken Layla Mosley, Harrington Raceway has named the sixth race on Wednesday, September 14 for the worthwhile cause.

Mosley, of Magnolia, is the daughter of Brenda and Keith Mosley, and was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ewing’s Sarcoma earlier this year (to read more about Mosley’s story, click here). She has been receiving chemotherapy treatments and had surgery in June to remove part of her ribs and a tumour from one of her lungs and ribcage.

Mosley is the granddaughter of popular local Standardbred horseman Joe Hundertpfund Jr. Horsemen have rallied behind Mosley with fundraising efforts to help fund her healthcare costs.

“The support we’ve received has been outrageous,” said Hunderptfund. “Not just in Delaware, but in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. It just shows that the horse racing family comes together when there’s a cause. It makes me proud.”

On Wednesday, Mosley is expected to be in attendance giving out ribbons that celebrate Childhood Cancer Awareness. Mosley is nearing the end of her chemotherapy treatments and the family is hopeful she will remain cancer-free.
