Flirty Dancer opened up the Monday (Sept. 11) evening card at Grand River Raceway with a win in the fifth leg of the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots for two-year-old trotting fillies.
Blevedere Jessica (Doug McNair) took the field of nine to the quarter in :29.4 and half in 1:01.1. Her efforts were followed by Exciting Mia (Chris Christoforou) in second and Flirty Dancer (Scott Young) in third. Young sent the Paul Reid trainee forward and took command en route to the three-quarters in 1:30. Flirty Dancer opened up her strides and powered home to win her $22,600 division by 8-1/2 lengths in 1:59. Her Currency (Bob McClure) was second and Exciting Mia rounded out the top three.
Owned by Brian Kleinberg, Richard Beinhauer and Paul Reid, the daughter of Lookslikeachpndale won her fourth race in seven starts. Flirty Dancer earned a career-best time and moved her bankroll to $45,756. She paid $7.50 to win.
West River Ivory won the second $22,600 OSS Grassroots division for the freshman trotting ladies with Paul MacDonell in the bike of his student.
MacDonell and West River Ivory got away fourth from the car with Abikadabra (McNair) leading the field of nine to the opening panel in :29.2. As Abikadabra continued on towards the half in 1:00.3, MacDonell pulled his right line to take West River Ivory first over. The daughter of Wheeling N Dealin took over from the outside as they reached the three-quarters in 1:30. She kept on going to secure the victory in 1:59.3 by 2-3/4 lengths. Abikadabra finished second and Gaming Queen (Travis Henry) was third.
Owned by Haley MacDonald, West River Ivory made her first career appearance in the winner's circle, moving her record to 1-2-3 in seven starts with $39,088 earned. She paid $2.60 to win.
