Selected Session Of T-Bred Canadian-Bred Yearling Sale Down Nearly 20%

The Selected Session of the Canadian-Bred Yearling Sale took place Tuesday, September 8 at the sales pavilion located in the Woodbine Racetrack backstretch. The sale resulted in 155 yearlings selling for over $4.6 million, representing a drop in gross sales of 19.87%

The number sold increased from 149 to 155 and the RNA remained constant from last year at 30.4%. The average declined from $39,131 in 2008 to $30,142 in 2009, representing a decline of 22.9%.

Topping the sale was a bay colt by hot sire Medaglia dOro, who was purchased by Lana Sniderman-Berg for $155,000. Out of the stakes-placed and stakes-producing mare Words of Royalty, the colt was consigned by Woodlands (Gail Wood), Agent.

Four $100,000 purchases tied for second billing, with a son of Grade 2 stakes winner Strut the Stage selling to Toronto businessmen Frank Annecchini and Rocco D’Alimonte, and a dark bay colt by multiple graded stakes winner Survivalist being purchased by Brian Lynch, agent for Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey. Both colts were consigned by Richard G. Hogan, Agent.

Rounding off the tie for second, was a North Light (IRE) colt purchased by Bear Stables, Ltd. through the consignment of Susan Y. Foreman, Agent, and another Survivalist colt which was purchased by Roger Attfield through the Michael C. Byrne consignment, Agent for Park Stud.

The Open Session of this year’s Canadian-Bred Yearling Sale will take place this Saturday, September 12 starting at 4:00 p.m. at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion, Woodbine Racetrack.
