Chippin Memorial At Fredericton Saturday

The Maritimes’ top free-for-all pacers will take centre stage Saturday, September 12 at Fredericton Raceway

. All Star Dragon, the winner of this year’s Walter Dale Memorial, has drawn Post 1 in the six-horse field in the Joe Chippin Memorial Pace which offers $7,500 in purses.

Gilles Barrieau, who leads all drivers during FREX Week with seven victories, will handle All Star Dragon’s reins for owner-trainer Stacy Gay of Fredericton. The four-year-old horse was a winner in the Horse Racing New Brunswick Invitational at Saint John’s Exhibition Park Raceway last weekend.

PEI invader Outlawpositivcharg is the 5-2 morning line favourite and will start from Post 5 for trainer-driver Terry Gallant. The field also includes the Robert McCain Memorial winner St Pete Star (PP6, Danny Romo), Astronomical (PP4, Gordie Hennessey) and the veteran mare Abby Best (PP3, Todd Trites).

Post times are 1:00 and 7:00 p.m. for the doubleheader card, which includes five divisions of the Bill Quigg Memorial Stakes for three-year-old pacers. Among the headliners in the Quigg is Seawind Dropper for veteran Nova Scotia horseman Phil Pinkney.

The afternoon card also features the first running of the Albert Goodine Memorial Junior Invitational. The $3,000 event includes Mike Campbell’s 11-year-old phenom Igoddago. The veteran campaigner will attempt to earn his third consecutive victory.
