Leamington Mayor Backing Proposal

Leamington Mayor John Paterson has let his excitement be known in regard to the possibility of the Leamington Fairgrounds playing host to an increased amount of live race dates in the future.

“I am extremely excited about it,” Paterson was quoted as saying in an article by The Windsor Star.

Paterson also went on to say that he can't help but think that the influx of racing to the track would raise tourism to the area, and that Leamington already has the marina, so live pari-mutuel racing at the raceway "would be another attraction.”

The report also explains that Paterson has been playing the role of middleman between the Leamington and District Agricultural Society and an unnamed group of horsepeople that have made the proposal.

The article has quoted Paterson as saying that the horsemen seemed "fairly positive," and that the fair board seemed "very receptive.”
