Somebeachsomewhere Connections Strike Again

The Schooner II Stable hit the winner's circle with another purchase from the last crop of their star Somebeachsomewhere in Ipanema Hanover, who broke her maiden on Thursday night (Sept. 1) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

A $250,000 purchase from the 2020 Black Book Sale, Ipanema Hanover didn't step onto the track until July 15 with a 1:58.4 mile. After four pari-mutuel starts, trainer-driver Paul MacDonell landed the filly's first victory in a $17,000 non-winners of one race.

MacDonell sat in the pocket while Ribbon Ridge set the pace through a :28 first quarter and a :57.2 half. He then edged off the pegs circling for home and strode clear in the stretch to deliver as the 5-2 favourite in 1:53.4. Arizona gave chase to finish second, three lengths behind, with Ribbon Ridge fading to third.

Ipanema Hanover has now banked $15,640 for owners Schooner II Stable, who is also enjoying a storybook season with their other prodigy from Somebeachsomewhere's last crop Beach Glass. She paid $7.80 to win.
