Travelling first over, race-favourite National Debt snagged victory again in the $10,000 Preferred Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway, going a 1:51.4 mile on Sunday, Sept. 1.
Driver Pascal Berbue placed the eight-year-old Allamerican Native stallion fifth while Brigadierbronski A cleared command past a :26.4 opening quarter. Chaleurs Ad raced from the pocket while National Debt began his advance towards the leader through a :55 half. The Yves Tessier trainee ranged closer to Brigadierbronski A through three-quarters in 1:23 and slid past through the stretch to a length victory. Chaleurs Ad snagged second while Brigadierbronski A settled for third.
Owned by Francois Morin, National Debt won his 10th race from 22 starts this season and his 49th from 157 overall, earning $511,007. He paid $4.30 to win.
Neon Lights lunged off cover around the final turn to nab the $10,000 Preferred Trot with a 1:57.2 mile.
Revenue Agent pocketed Pasadena Star past a :28 opening quarter and continued to set the speed through a :58.1 half and three-quarters in 1:27.3. Precieuse CC pulled first over past the half and carried Neon Lights into contention nearing the final turn. Driver Pascal Berube then spun Neon Lights three wide and shot past Revenue Agent entering the stretch to win by a length and a quarter. Revenue Agent held second from Pasadena Star in third.
A five-year-old gelding by Chapter Seven, Neon Lights won his fifth race from 21 starts this season and his 18th from 70 overall, earning $177,126. Gerard Demers conditions the $12.20 winner for owners La Ferme Tag Inc. and Les Ecuries Gld Inc.
