It was Lady Slipper stake night Thursday at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park with five divisions for two- and three year-old trotters.
Pappy Go Go, owned by Greyland Farm, Pugwash NS, delivered as the post time favourite in the first division of the Lady Slipper for trainer/driver Marc Campbell with Glencove Carter taking top honours in his $5,700 Lady Slipper assignment for trainer/owner Carl Bagnall and driver Harold Shepherd.
Shepherd also won with Suicide Shift for the driving double.
Wicked Nick, a son of Tad the Stud, wired the field to take the final Lady Slipper for two-year olds for Gary Chappell and the ownership team of Peter Buchanan, North Wiltshire and Cameron Trail, O’Leary, PE.
Oceanview Pancho ended Mr Bower’s winning streak at five. The three-year-old trotter, handled by Corey MacPherson, stopped the timer in 2:02.1 in his division of the Lady Slipper over a rain-soaked track rated as sloppy with a two-second variant. Oceanview Pancho is owned by Bill Roloson, Belfast and trainer Paul Larrabee of Belle River, PE.
Southfield Storm, under the command of Terry ‘Rubber Ducky’ Gallant, pulled off an upset in the other Lady Slipper for three-year-old trotters. The colt, owned by Southfield Farms Inc, Summerside, PE, picked up his first win of the season.
In other action, Thunderaway captured the Open Trot for Jason Hughes and Foxyhall Racing, Summerside, PE. The trotter scored his sixth victory of the season.
Perfect Escape was an impressive 1:56.3 winner on Thursday’s card, as well. The pacer packed a big opening punch when he flashed by the opening quarter in :27.4 and then rolled through factions of :57.3 and 1:26.4 for driver Gilles Barrieau. Jackie Matheson trains the seven-year-old for owners Jack Keenan, Stratford, PE and Joseph Dahl, Burlington, Ontario.
