Windemere Express Takes CDP Preferred

Windemere Express, with Michael McGuigan in the bike, won the Preferred Pace Saturday at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

McGuigan placed Windemere Express in the pocket behind pacesetter Wild Dragon (Terry Gallant) and stalked the leader through fast fractions of :27.1, :56.1 and 1:25.4 before blasting up the passing lane for the victory. The time of the mile was a sparkling 1:55.4. Lucky Encounter (Walter Cheverie) and Greatheart Hanover (Jason Hughes) completed the triactor.

Windemere Express, owned by John Thompson of Charlottetown and trained by Earl Watts, paid $22.20 to win. The 4-1-3 combination returned $276.40.

In other action, Veronicavermillion ended Dirt Track Momma’s winning streak taking the Open Mares class in 1:55.1. Brodie MacPhee did the driving for his grandfather Alex MacPhee of Clyde River, P.E.I. Neil Bambrick is the trainer. The mare has been perfect in her last three starts.

Lucky Boot Cam won the Billy Affleck Memorial in exciting fashion holding off a late charge from Pinner to notch her third win of the season for driver Jason Hughes, trainer Stephen Quinn and owners Donald and Steven MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. The mile was 1:56.2.

Trainer Garth Cole had a great night sending out Jarretts Jet, who won the third race for MacPhee. Cole also drove I Aint No Lady to victory in the trot division in 2:03.2.

Total handle was $35,169.
