Trainer Chris Beaver has reported that his Hambletonian starter Endurance, who broke stride in the Grade 1 final on Saturday, Aug. 8 at The Meadowlands, has been sidelined with an injury.
“Unfortunately, Endurance suffered a broken coffin bone in the Hambletonian yesterday," said Beaver in a statement posted on social media on Sunday morning. "He will recover in time. Despite his accomplishments, I believe we never saw his true potential. I want to thank my partners for their support through good and bad times, and all the people that have reached out to us in support these last couple weeks.”
Endurance is owned by Super Endurance Stable of Radner, Ohio, Bill Manes of Rockwood, Ont., Leo Fleming of Campbellville, Ont., and Mark Moger of Amelia Island, Florida.
Driven by Andrew McCarthy, the millionaire Captain Corey-Love Session colt has won 10 of his 15 career starts, including the Kentucky Championship Series as a two-year-old and a division of the Grade 3 Stanley Dancer Memorial prior to entering the Hambletonian eliminations.
Endurance finished second by a nose to eventual Hambletonian champion Apex in their elimination and was the 4-1 third choice in the final behind the two elim winners. He broke stride in the final turn while advancing from midfield into contention behind the pocket-popping favourite Big Ranger.
