Old Home Week racing continues Saturday, Aug. 10 with the first two trials of the Gold Cup & Saucer, presented by Atlantic Lottery, at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Old Home Week 2024 will wrap up with the 65th running of the $100,000 Gold Cup & Saucer on Aug. 17.
Gold Cup and Saucer Trial 1 and 2 will head to the gate this Saturday during an oversized 16-dash card at Red Shores Charlottetown commencing at 4 p.m. (Atlantic Time).
Trial 1 carries a $15,000 purse in Race 15 with Save America the favourite from post five for driver James MacDonald, trainer Jamie Smith and owner Thestable.ca. The four-year-old son of Captaintreacherous is a three-time winner in 2024 including a 1:52 score over Yonkers Raceway.
American History (To be driven by Dale Spence) has rail control fresh off a New Brunswick harness racing record when he won in 1:52 over Connell Park in Woodstock.
Also in Trial 1 vying for a top-three finish in order to advance to the $100,000 final are Fern Hill General (Brodie MacPhee), One Eight Hundred (Dr. Mitchell Downey), PL Ozzy (David Dowling), Hes Sure Good (Marc Whebby), Bayfield Beach (Marc Campbell), Binge On Yankee (Jody Jamieson) and Bee Two Bee (Jason Hughes).
Trial 2 is set for Race 16 on Saturday, and Covered Bridge is back on Island soil to defend his 2023 Gold Cup and Saucer title. Jody Jamieson will drive the Jeff Gillis trainee for owner Mark Ford of New York.
Blue Hunt (Hughes) has drawn post one in Trial 2 after a convincing 1:52.2 victory in the Preferred Pace in his local debut last week.
Trial 2 also includes Bounty Hunter (Kenny Arsenault), Fortify (MacDonald), Ilikemebettor A (Mike McGuigan), Saulsbrook Ian (Corey MacPherson), Twin B Tuffenuff (Gilles Barrieau) and Roll Em (Campbell).
The Saturday card also featuring the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies as well as eliminations of the Birthplace Of Confederation Open Mares Series, in memory of Doug Hill.
Race 13 is the $6,000 Old Home Week Invitational Trot.
