Setting the track record for aged pacing mares at Rideau Carleton Raceway back in June, Lit De Rose bested her own mark in the $9,200 Preferred Handicap Pace on Sunday (Aug. 9).
Away fourth, Lit De Rose sat off of quick fractions set by Vanilla Malted parking 1-2 favourite Mcjagersonthemove. Vanilla Malted cleared command past a :27.2 first quarter and continued to speed through middle fractions of :54.1 and 1:22.4. Into the stretch, Vanilla Malted held a two-length advantage on pocket-sitter Atomic Million AM as Lit De Rose had room to angle off the pegs. With fresh legs, the five-year-old Leader Bayama mare lifted flight and landed a head in front of Vanilla Malted at the finish of a 1:52.1 mile. The time bests Lit De Rose’s previous record of 1:52.2.
A homebred for Guy Corbeil, Lit De Rose won her third race from six starts this season and her 15th from 44 overall, earning $156,667. Jonathan Lachance drove the $5.30 winner for trainer Maxime Velaye.
Boo Thang rolled first over into the final turn to post a two-length victory in the $9,200 Preferred Handicap Trot.
Keepall set the tempo through splits of :27.3, :57 and 1:25.3. Positioned fourth at the half by seven lengths, driver Stephane Brosseau bolted Boo Thang towards the leader into the backside, drawing within a length of command into the final turn and soon clearing command. The four-year-old Conway Hall gelding strode through the stretch chased by 1-5 favourite Capteur De Reve, who tracked the winner into the final turn before finishing second by two lengths in a 1:54.4 mile. Ace Bi finished third.
Owned by Nicole Bovay Gurtner, Marc Camirand, Paul Charles Moran and Claude Thibault, Boo Thang won his third race from 16 starts this season and his sixth from 39 overall, earning $83,307. Pierre Bovay trains the $8.20 winner.
