Euchred Goes Alone At Inverness

Kayla Habicht Walker's Euchred ($2.70) blasted from his outside post and maintained clearance over his three foes in a dominant 1:57.1 score in Sunday's (Aug. 9) featured pace at Inverness Raceway, a $1,250 winners-over event.

Trainer-driver Walter Walker wasted absolutely no-time with the eight-year-old Shadow Play gelding, placing him on the lead and three lengths clear of Dashpedia through a :28.2 first quarter. From there, Euchred steadily widened his lead through middle splits of :57 and 1:27 — with the advantage reaching five lengths a furlong from home. That margin remained nearly intact at the winning post, as Euchred evaded a mild rally from runner-up Brookdale Bruiser by 4-3/4 lengths. Modern Best overtook the tiring Dashpedia in mid-stretch for third.

Euchred, a 58-time winner, has now won six times this season and has captured five of eight starts since returning to Atlantic Canada in June.
