The trip was sweet, and the end result even sweeter for Red Magician in Friday’s $2,750 Preferred 2 for pacers at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Adam Merner mapped out the pretty trip for Red Magician, and the Melissa Rennie trainee didn’t let it go to waste.
Intended Royalty marched to the lead in :28.1, with Red Magician relenting for the garden spot. Those two held their positions to the half in :57.1, but Rockin Indy came first over and pressed Intended Royalty to the three-quarter pole in 1:26.3. The continued their battle to the head of the lane, with Red Magician waiting for his chance to pounce. He did just that in the late stages and his :28.2 closing speed propelled him to the head decision over Intended Royalty in 1:55.1. Rockin Indy faded late and settled for third prize.
It was the second straight score for the nine-year-old son of Badlands Hanover-Frankly Annie who races for Dale and Ronnie Rennie of Elmsdale, PE. Red Magician now boasts a 3-1-4 record from 14 starts this season. The 26-time winner has stashed away earnings in excess of $108,000 to date.
