Longtime catch-driver Richard Simard has been the hottest catch driver at Rideau Carleton Raceway recently and he kicked off the Thursday evening program in style.
He clicked with Eveil Dun Champion and recorded his 5,500th driving victor in the process. Simard hustled the two-year-old son of Shadow Play to the front, and after slicing out fractions of :29.1, :58.4 and 1:28.1 he then used a :29.1 kicked to win by 6-1/4 lengths with the Eric Valiquette trainee.
Simard, whose nine wins over the last five days tops all Rideau drivers, has compiled a career bankroll that stands in excess of $30 million in addition to racking up those 5,500 wins.
