Riley Triples At Kawartha

Three winners from four starters was the Coles Notes version of how things went for trainer Tommy Riley during Thursday’s program at Kawartha Downs.

The young conditioner kicked off the card with a victory thanks to Peruvian Desire’s 1:56.1 score. John Thomson mapped out the winning trip for the gelding. Gord Brown guided the next two Riley-trained winners including Loose Talk in Race 5. The six-year-old son of Freedoms Pass went wire-to-wire in 1:56.2. The triple was completed when Brown and Riley paired up to take Race 9 with Pacific Warrior. The veteran rallied to win by a narrow margin 1:56.

Riley, who combined to win a total of five races in his first three years of training, has put together some nice numbers in recent years. In fact, he’s sent out more than 25 winners in each of the last three seasons.

Lifetime, the Roseneath, Ontario horseman has sent out 159 winners while hauling in more than $875,000 in purse money.
