Undefeated pacing filly A Clean Deal tightened for a return to action with an impressive performance during the session of qualifiers at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday, Aug. 8.
The daughter of Cattlewash - Ideal Talker is perfect in three freshman appearances, with her last victory coming in Ontario Sires Stakes competition on July 17 over this past Monday's Battle of the Belles champ Daya. Once again, Doug McNair got the call aboard the Kyle Fellows pupil in a qualifier with both two- and three-year-old rivals.
Age, however, is just a number. McNair aimed A Clean Deal between pacers early, landing on the lead just after clearing Ohio (Bob McClure) through a tepid :31.4 opening quarter. The tempo picked up from there, as a six-length advantage at the 1:01.1 half kept widening through the end of the mile. With a back half in :55.2, A Clean Deal bested Im With Poppy (Tyler Moore) by 10 lengths in a 1:56.3 prep.
A Clean Deal is owned by Yolanda Fellows of Rockwood, Ont., Blair Corbeil of Leduc, Alta., Windermere Stable LLC of New York, N.Y. and James Ross of Wingham, Ont. In just three starts, the Winbak Farm product has banked a tidy sum of $148,000.
On the trotting side of Friday's ledger, Chex Mix added trotting hopples after back-to-back breaks and the two-year-old daughter of Green Manalishi S - Can Do It All delivered a sharp wire-to-wire 1:58.3 effort. Louis-Philippe Roy engineered the winning trip for trainer Clark Beelby and owner Coyote Wynd Farms of Oakville, Ont.
A $125,000 Harrisburg yearling bred by David Heffering, Chex Mix bested sophomore Seasonal (Chris Christoforou) by two lengths in her record-taking mile.
