Gostreet Back To Winner’s Circle

Gostreet, the winner of the Masters Trotting Series for mares on July 11 at Georgian Downs, returned to the winner’s circle at the Innisfil oval on Saturday night after trouncing her rivals in the $15,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Trot

Gostreet and trainer/driver Lyle MacArthur got away fourth from Post 6 as Frenchfrysnvinegar (Robert Shepherd) established the early lead and put up fractions of :27.3 and :58.3. From there, favourite Saqqara Dream (Steve Byron) took over and she rolled past three-quarters in 1:27.1, but Gostreet, the 3-1 second choice, kicked into action in the stretch and sprinted home in :29.2 for the victory in 1:57.1.

Longshot Shipps Foxylady (Anthony MacDonald) closed well to finish a length behind in second and Lady Gambler (Simon Allard) rounded out the top three.

The win was No. 12 for Gostreet, who has made 22 starts this season. The five-year-old Angus Hall-Rose Street Jewel mare has recorded 20 triumphs in her career and now sports a bankroll of $235,358 for owners Linda Wellwood of St. George and Tammy Aspden of Caistor Centre, Ont.
