Noted leaver Four Trumps A (Larry Stalbaum) employed a different Saturday night tactic, closing from second-over to grab Yonkers Raceway's $50,000 Open Handicap Pace
.
After pole-assigned second choice Dave Aint Here (Stephane Bouchard) two-moved around longshot Eckstrom (Jim Pantaleano), King Cat Anvil N (Jordan Stratton) moved from fourth with 7-5 favourite Four Trumps A--leaving from post position No. 4--in behind.
"Dave", who put forth fractions of :27.1, :56.3 and 1:25.1, was done in and out of the final turn. With the weekly honours up for grabs, Four Trumps A came wide, Dark Sign (Cat Manzi) came even wider and Pandoras Sox (Billy Dobson) knifed his way in between inside foes. Four Trumps A earned the slightest of nose decisions over Dark Sign in 1:53.3, with "Pandora" third--beaten just a head--and King Cat Anvil N and Psilvuheartbreaker (Jim Meittinis) grabbing the final pay envelopes.
For Four Trumps A, a seven-year-old Down Under son of Trump Casino co-owned by trainer Kimberly Asher and Mike Sorentino Jr., he paid $4.80 for his eighth win in 18 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $23.40, with the triple returning $184.
