Prince Of Tides threw down a pair of sub-27 quarters but still needed to dig in late to preserve his victory in Saturday’s $16,000 Open Handicap Pace at The Meadows.
Prince Of Tides blazed the opening panel in :26.2, seating Done Well in the process. But even when Prince Of Tides tacked on a :26.3 third panel, he couldn’t shake Done Well, who made a race of it late. Prince Of Tides responded to the urging of Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. and held off Done Well by a neck in 1:49, with Whos Better a non-threatening third.
Randy Bendis trains the winner, a five-year-old Somebeachsomewhere-Tug River Princess gelding who boosted his lifetime bankroll to $367,402, and owns with Pollack Racing LLC.
Wrenn finished the day with five wins on the 12-race card while trainer Ron Burke fashioned a triple.
Live harness racing at The Meadows resumes Wednesday when The Meadows, prompted by carryovers, has added $7,500 total-pool guarantees for both the Early Pick 4 (race 2) and the Pick 5 (race 8). In addition, Wednesday’s card features a $2,689.37 carryover in the final-race Super Hi-5. First post Wednesday is 12:45 p.m.
