Positioned behind battling leaders, Katch Kanna capitalized from a conservative trip to upset the $11,500 Preferred 2 Trot on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Georgian Downs.

The six-year-old Lucky Chucky gelding left for the front inside of race-favourite Absolut Seelster, who cleared control moving to a :27.4 opening quarter. Cloud Nine Hanover, sitting third, then tipped off the cones and moved alongside the tempo setter through a :58 half.

Cloud Nine Hanover failed to clear but managed to put a neck in front passing three-quarters in 1:26. But Absolut Seelster reclaimed command rounding into the stretch and clung to control while pursued by Katch Kanna coming from the pocket and Flying Isa N swooping off cover. Katch Kanna inched past Absolut Seelster to win by a nose in 1:55.3 with Flying Isa N settling for third.

Owned by Les Ecuries Dorleans Inc., Katch Kanna won his fifth race from 24 starts this season and his 18th from 96 overall, earning $149,305. Tyler Moore drove the $20.20 winner for trainer Jacques Dupont.
