Six For Marohn At The Mighty M

Jimmy Marohn, Jr. put on a driving clinic at the Mighty M on Tuesday, winning six races on the program.

Marohn got the ball rolling copping the first race with Vincent Valante’s Hammer ($6.80), who won by 13 lengths in a time of 1:57.1.

He then won the second with Ed and James Hall’s Mr Express ($11.00) in 1:56.3, followed by a win in the third with Craig, Gary and Ira Axelrod’s Sandri Hanover ($18.40) in 1:58.

Win number four was with Durazzano Stables’ Flak Jacket N ($14.40) in 1:57.2, and his fifth winning drive on the afternoon card was behind Dominick Rafanelli’s Calmlee Jason ($7.00) in 1:56.3.

Marohn’s final triumph on the day came when he guided Ed Hall’s Farewell Sky ($5.90) home first in a time of 1:55.1.

When contacted in the paddock after the races ended Marohn was certainly feeling good about his accomplishments.

“I’ve won five races on a card a few times but this is the best day I’ve ever had,” Marohn said trying to hide a smile. “I had a bunch of horses that were getting beat up in the past few weeks that dropped down in class and were in good spots today.”

Marohn is in a battle for leading driver honours here with Jimmy Taggart, Jr., Mike Forte, and Greg Merton. Earlier this season Marohn had it all his own way and he owned the lead but with his driving obligations at Tioga Downs – he’s the leader there - have taken him away from some of his Mighty M duties and has seen his Mighty M lead dissipate. Still he’s hanging around just a handful of wins from the top in what is now a heated four-man competition.
