Machthemoment rebounded from his third place finish in last week's $790 Preferred event at St. John's Racing & Entertainment Centre with a five-length score over the top class reigning champ, U S Charmeleon
, in Sunday's edition.
Trainer-driver Rod Forward and Machthemoment left from Post 4 over the sloppy track and maintained a two length lead on the field as they carved out fractions of :30.3, 1:03 and 1:34.3 before extending that lead to five lengths and hitting the wire in 2:04.2. Favourite U S Charmeleon followed for second with Muzzysenglishbaby (Shane Forward) finished third.
The seven-year-old chestnut son of Mach Three-Memorable Moments has won half of his six starts this year for owners Jeanette Newell of Coleys Point South and Justin Newell of North Valley, Nfld. The victory was his 35th lifetime and bumped his earnings to $66,324.
