Mike MacDonald, the leading driver in Gold Cup and Saucer history, will be honoured on Sunday, August 16th as part of the events leading up to the 50th edition of the Gold Cup

. The special evening will be held in the Top of the Park at the Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre starting at 7:00 p.m.

The night will feature highlights of MacDonald’s career and remarks from several of his longtime friends in the industry.

“We wanted to celebrate the history and tradition of the Gold Cup and Saucer and we needed to recognize the people who help build the event into the Greatest Show in Harness Racing,” stated Lee Drake, Director of Marketing and Media Relations for Harness Racing PEI. “As the most successful participant in the event’s history, Mike was a natural choice to honour.”

Mike MacDonald, who is featured in August's issue of Trot Magazine, won the Gold Cup and Saucer five times, twice with Ventall Rainbow, Pearls Falcon, Sandy Hanover, and Winners Accolade, and competed in the event twenty nine times over his successful harness racing career.

Tickets for the event, which includes the buffet, are $25 and are available at the Harness Racing PEI office (892-6823), PEI Harness Racing Industry Association office (569-1682) and from organizing committee members Mike O’Brien (314-8308), Bert McWade (694-9554), or Kent Oakes (314-0815).
