Jula Hot To Chill and Flying Copper were the winners of two $103,472 New York Sire Stakes divisions for two-year-old trotting fillies on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at MGM Yonkers Raceway.

In the first split, which was contested as a non-betting event before the pari-mutuel program, three horses made breaks past the start, leaving just pacesetter Seven Winds (Dan Dube) and Jula Hot To Chill (Braxten Boyd) in contention. Seven Winds cut fractions of :29.1, :59.1 and 1:29.1, but Jula Hot To Chill tipped out of the pocket on the final turn, took over the top spot and drew off to a seven-length victory in 2:00. Seven Winds was second and Aviatrix Blue Chip (Tyler Buter) came in third.

Bred by owner Jula Racing Inc., Jula Hot To Chill is a daughter of Chapter Seven-Jula Champagne trained by Marcus Melander. Jula Hot To Chill broke her maiden in her third trip behind the gate and has now earned $94,243.

In the other flight, Overalls (Jordan Stratton) led at the :28.2 quarter, :58.4 half and 1:29.2 three-quarters, tracked by Flying Copper (Sarah Svanstedt) in the two-hole and 2-5 favourite Ill Have The Red (Rick Zeron) gapped in third. Ill Have The Red caught up to the top two nearing three-quarters and went to the outside on the far turn, but she made a break. With the favourite out of the mix, Svanstedt swung Flying Copper to the outside in the stretch, and she went around Overalls after a brief battle before kicking away to prevail by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:59.4. Overalls was the runner-up and Grace In Heaven (Brett Beckwith) was third after she broke early.

Ake Svanstedt trains Flying Copper, a Chapter Seven-Southwind Snow filly bred by Order By Stable AB, and co-owns her with Santandrea Inc. and Little E LLC. Flying Copper won in her first lifetime start and paid $21.80 to win as the 9-1 fourth choice.

A pair of $27,778 New York Excelsior Series tests for the rookie filly trotters were sub-featured on the card. Modesty Blaise ($4.60) was promoted to victory in the first division as Elqueen (Jeff Gregory), who crossed the wire first by a head while on a break, was placed third. The winning filly by Chapter Seven-Diffident, bred by owner S R F Stable, won in 2:00.4 for driver Dube and trainer Ake Svanstedt. Saparilla Sal ($13.80), by Devious Man-Miss Conway and bred by Robert Brooks, won the second split in 2:00.3 for trainer/driver Dan Daley and owners Ann-Mari Daley, Jlrl LLC and Gage Marshall.

New York Sire Stakes action continues at Yonkers Raceway on Friday, Aug. 8, with one $174,000 USD event for three-year-old colt and gelding pacers.

Yonkers is currently operating on a Monday/Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday live racing schedule with post time each night at 6:45 p.m.
