Evan’s Legacy Fundraiser Saturday

Published: August 6, 2019 05:04 pm EDT

Woodbine Mohawk Park is proud to host the fourth annual ‘Drive with us for Evan’s Legacy’ fundraiser this Saturday evening (August 10).

Evan Leversage became well known in October of 2015 after his hometown of St. George, Ont. presented the seven-year-old with an ‘early Christmas’ parade. Evan had been batting an inoperable brain tumour for five years and had wished to see another Christmas.

Unfortunately, Evan did not make it to Christmas and passed away in December of 2015.

Evan’s mother, Nicole Wellwood, and family launched Evan’s Legacy, a foundation to raise money for research into childhood cancers and brain tumours.

The funds raised by Evan's Legacy, are being directed to research into pediatric brain cancer. This project is in its early stages, as Dr. Michael Taylor and his team at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto continue their ground-breaking childhood brain cancer research, which was originally funded through a 2014 grant with Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.

Woodbine Mohawk Park will again host the Evan’s Legacy team on Saturday evening for a fundraiser. Events and activities include the following:

• Raffle draw and prize giveaways
• Firetruck tours
• Dunking for apples
• Meet and greet with Guelph Storm captain Cam Hillis
• Meet and greet with boxer Fitz Vanderpool
• Start car rides
• COSA sulky rides

Saturday evening’s card of racing will feature a race named in memory of Evan and a special winner’s circle presentation. Post time is at 7:10 p.m.
