“Every time I think about it, I get chills. There’s lots of big races, but there’s no race I’d rather be in."

To simply say 21-year-old trainer Patrick Shepherd wants to win the Gold Cup and Saucer would be quite the understatement.

“To have Vance Cameron, the voice of Old Home Week, announce you out under the spotlight, it would be unbelievable,” Shepherd has been quoted as saying in an article by The Guardian.

The report explains that Shepherd is looking to enter a pair of charges to contest the coveted stakes event. “We bought (Mach It Big) for the Gold Cup," Shepherd was quoted as saying. "He’s been good to us and we hope he stays good and makes it in. The other horse (Modern Xhibit) just kind of fell into place and we took him along, too.”

Trial 1 of the Gold Cup and Saucer will take place Saturday, August 10 at Red Shores' Charlottetown Driving Park. Trial 2 will be contested Monday, August 12 at the CDP. The $60,000 final will take place Saturday, August 17.

“I’d be speechless, to win the Gold Cup and Saucer," Shepherd said. "Wow. In front of my friends and family, in my hometown, incredible.”
