Talk Some Smack launched three-wide racing out of the last turn and brushed by the leaders to capture the $2,000 Winners Over Pace Wednesday, Aug. 5 at Inverness Raceway. The victory is the third straight at the oval for the Kevin MacDonald trainee.
Drawing the rail in the featured event, Talk Some Smack and Rodney Gillis settled in second as favoured Whats Up Doc, driven by Redmond Doucet, set fractions of :29.3 and :59.4. While Hippy John advanced to challenge the leader on the outside, Gillis found daylight on the backstretch and moved Talk Some Smack into the outer flow. As the field reached three quarters (1:29.3), the veteran pacer was ready to strike.
Angling out and with a clear path to the wire, Talk Some Smack kicked clear of his four rivals with a :27.4 last quarter, winning by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:57.4. Hippy John (Ronald Gillis) held for second, with Whats Up Doc finishing third.
A seven-year-old gelded son of Artspeak-Astraean, Talk Some Smack has won his last three attempts, all at Inverness. He is owned by MacDonald, of Fort Hood, NS. The victory is his 17th career tally. He returned $9.40 to his backers in the night’s finale.
