One Belle maintained her perfect career record as she made two moves to the top in the $76,000 Pure Ivory Series final for two-year-old filly trotters on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
James MacDonald floated her out from post eight and slotted her into the four-hole on the first turn with Shimmering Hanover (Louis-Philippe Roy) on the front. One Belle was flushed out by the brushing Aura Of Athena (Jody Jamieson) just after the quarter in :28.3, and One Belle fired from fourth to the lead before letting Aura Of Athena take over nearing the half in :59.3.
MacDonald again summoned One Belle from the pylons on the final turn and the filly circled Aura Of Athena before three-quarters in 1:28.1 and stormed away to a 5-1/2-length cushion by mid-stretch. She then rolled home to victory in 1:56, clear by 2-1/4 lengths over Wishuponastar Deo (Tyler Borth), who finished second. Shimmering Hanover completed the triactor. The winner returned $2.10.
The Matt Bax-trained One Belle is three-for-three with $56,000 in earnings. She recorded a lifetime-best time of 1:54.4 in the first leg of the Pure Ivory. Al Libfeld of Pickering, Ont. owns and bred the Walner-Ms Savannah Belle filly.
A claiming Pop-Up Series kicked off on the card with two $10,000 divisions. Hes Swift ($3.80), driven by Jody Jamieson, dominated the first split in 1:53.2 and Pick A Genre ($5.80) took the second division in 1:52.4 with Trevor Henry aboard. The series is for $8,000 pacing male claimers that are non-winners of $5,000 in their last five starts, with allowances for age.
