Ultimate Cameron Goes For Ultimate Prize

This season’s leading money winning three-year-old trotting filly, Ultimate Cameron, comes into Saturday’s $750,000 Hambletonian Oaks with three wins in five starts.

Capturing the $557,000 Elegantimage Stake at Mohawk in a stakes record 1:53.3 put this fast daughter of Yankee Glide atop the leader board. Having finished third in her last two starts at The Meadowlands, the Bob Steward–trained sophomore will have her work cut out for her from the unpopular ninth post position.

Owned by Diamond Creek Farm, Ultimate Cameron was “forced to the front end in her last two starts,” claims her conditioner. “She has good tactical speed and good gate speed. We did not really want the front end after having three weeks off.” Bob Stewart admitted that she might not have been as “sharp as she could have been. And that might have been my fault; I am a little easier on them than I should be!”

Bob Stewart is based at Lexington’s famed Red Mile, but set-up shop at Jan Johnson’s Egyptian Acres while racing in the Garden State. The well-respected trotting trainer looks forward to Saturday’s Oaks final and feels that Ultimate Cameron will “benefit from racing back in 7 days.” He added, “I think with all of the talented fillies in the final, it will be an interesting race. It may be a race that no one can figure out. Hopefully we will benefit from that uncertainty.”
